I recently received a question about anger and what we should do if we lose our tempers. Well, let’s accept that we’re human and far from perfect. We’re not striving for perfection because that’s just another role to distract us from our deeper sense of self. So when we fail to keep our old habits or feelings in check, the best response is to recognise the lapse and laugh at our folly. This can disarm the anger and put our feelings into context. Failure is normal. Our challenge is to keep trying until we overcome these habits. Developing awareness of how we’re feeling and learning to question where these feelings come from can help us to govern our emotional responses until they no longer govern our behaviour. This is a lifetime’s endeavour!
